As dance lovers around the globe prepare to celebrate World Ballet Day on Thursday, 5 October, Joburg Ballet artistic director Iain MacDonald has announced an impressive line-up of dancers who will alternate in leading roles in the company’s world premiere season of Snow White – The Ballet at Joburg Theatre from 13 to 22 October, as well as details of a special Night of Stars fundraising gala on 18 October, featuring singers Angela Kilian, Sibongile Mngoma, Timothy Moloi and Samantha Peo with the full Joburg Ballet company.

The 10-performance run of Snow White opens on Friday 13 October at 19:30 with Nicole Ferreira-Dill and Leusson Muniz as Snow White and the Royal Huntsman. Alternating casts feature Shannon Glover and Ruan Galdino, Monike Cristina and Revil Yon, and Shana Dewey and Bruno Miranda and the season marks debut performances in leading roles for Leusson, Cristina, Yon, Dewey and Miranda.

 

Sharing the role of the evil Queen are Kitty Phetla, Monike Cristina, Claudia Monja, Sanmarie Kreuzhuber and Shannon Glover.

Joburg Ballet has also announced the programme for the company’s 2017 one-night-only fundraising gala, Night of Stars, at Joburg Theatre on Wednesday 18 October at 19:30. Shannon Glover and Revil Yon will dance the passionate balcony pas de deux from Romeo and Juliet, which they performed earlier this month to great acclaim in China, Monike Cristina and Ivan Domiciano will perform the spectacular virtuoso pas de deux from Don Quixote and members of the company will appear in the Grand Waltz from Snow White.

 

For the first time at a Joburg Ballet fundraising gala, the company will be joined by a range of SA’s foremost entertainers, including singers Angela Kilian, Sibongile Mngoma, Timothy Moloi and Samantha Peo, performing songs and arias from musicals and operas such as WickedAnnie and Carmen.

 

The company is also delighted to welcome Vuyani Dance Theatre and the Flying Violinist who will add their impressive talents to Night of Stars, while Ashley Hayden, Joburg Ballet and Joburg Theatre board member, will be MC for the evening.
