Mayor of London Sadiq Khan condemns Donald Trump for not recognising LGBT people

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has called on American President Trump to recognise the LGBT community and their “great” contribution during Pride in London 2017.

Talking to PinkNews, the Labour politician invited Trump and other anti-LGBT politicians to visit London and see how the LGBT community improves the city.

The Mayor added that he was incredibly proud to be at the Pride march taking place in the centre of London last Saturday.

Khan said that he wanted to send a message to all Londoners and those visiting the capital.

The message is that you’re free to be who you want to be and you’re free to love who you want to love.

He also used the opportunity to speak out against discrimination in light of the recent terrorist attacks.

To mark the Pride in London festival, Transport for London has given parts of the city’s transport network a new rainbow design.

Gay athlete wins world record for fastest walking mile

Gay athlete Tom Bosworth has won a world record at the London Anniversary Games.

Bosworth won the walking mile race in a time of 5 minutes 31 seconds, making him the world record holder.

The 27-year-old publicly came out in 2015 on a TV show.

He is now engaged to his fiancé Harry Dinleley, who he proposed on Copacabana Beach during the Rio Olympics.

Last year, he picked up a PinkNews award on behalf of Olympians and Paralympians.

Bosworth previously discussed the homophobia he had received in the past – describing how he once had his head smashed through a window because of his sexuality.

Bolshoi director denies Nureyev ballet postponed due to gay content

The director of Moscow’s Bolshoi theatre has furiously denied rumours that the shock last-minute postponement of a ballet premiere was due to gay themes present in the production.

Nureyev, a ballet adaptation of the life of Rudolf Nureyev, the Soviet ballet superstar who defected to the west in 1961, was due to premiere on the Bolshoi’s stage on Tuesday, and was one of the most eagerly anticipated global premieres of the year.

On Monday, the Bolshoi’s general director, Vladimir Urin, held a briefing in an ornate hall at the theatre and insisted that the decision to postpone the premiere until May next year had been taken for artistic reasons only.

The ballet deals with Nureyev’s homosexuality and is said to feature naked portraits of the dancer.

Urin said he had been aware from the start that the theme would prove controversial in Russia, but insisted this was not the reason for the sudden decision.

He did, however, appear to allude to the homosexual theme, saying Nureyev was a “complicated figure” and the ballet contained “themes that could provoke a certain distaste”.

Many questioners appeared incredulous about the official explanation, leading Urin to snap angrily that people were free to disbelieve him should they wish.
