Malta’s Prime Minister Promises to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage

Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat won a second term in office after calling a snap parliamentary election last month to counter allegations of corruption against his wife and some of his political allies.

Muscat’s Labour Party won 55 percent of votes in Saturday’s election, handing it an absolute majority in the 65-seat parliament, according to political sources on both sides involved in the vote tally.

Muscat has promised to cut taxes and raise pensions, tackle traffic congestion, and legalize gay marriage.

The 43-year-old Muscat will be sworn in on Monday, after which he will begin forming his new government that will have a five-year mandate.

A grieving family is fighting to get her son’s body after he died during a trip to Egypt.

Adrian King, 39, was a gay British man on vacation in Cairo with a female friend.

When his kidneys appear to have failed, he was taken to a hospital and went into a coma.

King’s mother, Elaine Gilbert, said she was told on May 25 that her son had been in a coma for four days, and then told five days later that he had died.

The hospital reportedly turned off the dialysis machine without notice or consultation with King’s family.

The hospital told her they would not release his body to her until she paid them their bill, totaling £40,000.

The family is planning to hold a memorial service for King without his body.

While there is so far no reason to believe homophobia played a part, the region has been ramping up attacks on the LGBTQ community in recent years.

Many Swiss gay men using PrEP without doctor support

An online survey using the social dating app, Grindr, reveals that the majority of gay and other men who have sex with men (sometimes referred to as MSM) in Switzerland are considering taking pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in the future – but of those currently on PrEP, healthcare engagement is low.

The results show that a Swiss national PrEP programme is needed to ensure those who want the life-saving treatment, can access it and ensure that this is done under the supervision of professional healthcare workers.

PrEP, a course of antiretroviral treatment to prevent HIV among HIV-negative people, is currently not approved for use in Switzerland.
